Con il comunicato stampa di seguito allegato, Garmin e ASUS hanno annunciato una strategica alleanza che porterà alla produzione di soluzioni hardware frutto del know-how delle due aziende, commercializzate con un brand legato a entrambe, ovvero Garmin-Asus. La collaborazione darà origine essenzialmente a nuovi telefoni cellulari appartenenti alla linea dei nüvifone: i primi modelli marcati Garmin-Asus saranno mostrati al prossimo trade show "Mobile World Congress" che si terrà a Barcellona dal 16 al 19 Febbraio.

Il primo fra tutti sarà il nüvifone G60, già annunciato nel 2008, che sarà rinominato all'uopo per aderire alla nuova "brandizzazione" mentre il suo arrivo sul mercato è fissato per la prima metà del 2009. L'obiettivo, nemmeno tanto segreto, di entrambe è quello di contrapporre lo G60 all'iPhone e di utilizzare, oltre al pieno supporto delle Google Apps, la tecnologia GPS, da sempre cavallo di battaglia di Garmin, come il valore aggiunto per fronteggiare e contrastare il successo della ben nota device di Apple.
